*This little diatribe can be found on Instagram, on the post announcing this release. https://www.instagram.com/p/DUbOjmpiN98/ Happy Songtradr ("Bandcamp") Friday. Incredibly self-indulgent and arguably lazy to throw a bunch of shoddy-quality demos upon an audience, but sometimes you're sitting upon tracks that just need to be put out there (the least shitty ones, anyway). All the funds from this release (and any other release) will be sent towards supporting Palestinian funds and Black voices. It's important to remember that this is Black History Month, and it's important to remember that both young and old Black artists and musicians are the ones that typically, are pushing art forward and the voices that *need* to be heard, especially Queer voices. Racism is still a part of both queer and alt/punk communities, no matter how much we try to convince ourselves that they've been "solved" or that we're all "accepting". Because the white folk will still silence and push away those voices. I speak as someone who is white (while also being Asian, but either way). It makes me disappointed to see Queer folk pull the "White guilt" when being called out. Listen and learn. Stop being ignorant. Listen to Black voices. Let's not forget that Black people have been a part of screamo, hardcore punk, or just extreme music in general (and should continue to be). Here's just a list. Please be noted that there are a lot, lot, lot more Black musicians in these scenes, but these are just a couple I can name before Instagram limits me. - Glenn "Spot" Lockett (1951-2023, REST IN PEACE, producer and engineer, worked with Black Flag, Descendants, Meat Puppets, Husker Du, Misfits) - D. H. Peligro (drummer for Dead Kennedys) - Death (the 70s proto-punk band) - Mag Delana (guitarist / vocalist in Yaphet Kotto) - Bad Brains - Mike Smith (original drummer for Suffocation) - Terrance Hobbs (original and still-ongoing lead guitarist for Suffocation) - The Failsafe Device (one of their three lead vocalists) - Dwayne Robinson (drummer in Merchant Ships) - Soul Glo - Yoskar Jimenez (vocalist in Ted Williams) Thank you for listening. - Luna
